Surprise!

Can you guess how many of us are in this photo?

Not three. But we thought four....

Until we went for a first trimester screening and saw this:
Twins!

Say hello to Baby A:

And Baby B:

As of last Tuesday, Baby A was 6.1 cm, and Baby B is 5.9 cm. All organs that could be checked out at this point were normal, and their nuchal translucency measurements were 1.3 and 1.1. (Anything under 3 is low risk for Down Syndrome.) They're dichorionic/diamniotic, which = fraternal, but don't ask me how they figured out the dichorionic part. They may have explained that, but I was somewhat hysterical for the first part of the exam and may have missed it.
Baby B is the feisty one and would not stop moving. We can already tell that Chad + Baby B = trouble. Baby A was the quiet rebel. The ultrasound tech (God bless her heart, she had her hands full with us) would be trying to get a measurement, and say, "Come on baby, straighten out just a little bit." and Baby A would immediately flip the other way and ruin the shot. Baby A is the one who will smile at us during dinner, claim to be going upstairs to finish their homework, and then climb out the window to go to a party.
The official due date is Valentine's Day. We're just hoping to make it to the end of January.

So to recap, these are the things we learned this week:
1) Twins can happen to anyone!
2) If you consistently measured two weeks too small for your first baby, being several weeks too large with your second should raise a few eyebrows.
3) Husbands should never be late to ultrasounds, because discoveries like this should not be thrust upon one parent when she's by herself.
4) If said husband is running late, calling his cell phone in hysterics while he's driving and delivering news like this is not safe.
