Chad's First Mile
He did it! He ran a mile! We outfitted him with Andy's old Forerunner, and ran 0.5 miles up the road, then turned around and ran back, being sure to get a final kick in over the last 0.1. There was a quick stop at about 0.6 to fix some problematic shoe tongues that wouldn't stay put, but other than that he ran the WHOLE thing! He did it in 12:54! There are some adults that can't do that!
And he talked the ENTIRE time! OMG. During our walking warm-up he asked if we were supposed to talk while running, and I told him he should be ABLE to talk, but he didn't HAVE to. But the kid would not stop talking. Even when I told him to rest his mouth so his legs could work harder, there was about a 10 second respite before he was back to telling me that a pick-up truck just passed us, and don't worry, he wouldn't trip because he was looking at the sidewalk, and maybe we should push the button at the crosswalk (even though we weren't crossing) in case someone else needed it, and where did I think that motorcycle was going? and that the dead squirrel we passed was probably just sleeping, and no, it's OK, his head wasn't missing, he just pulled it inside his body while he was sleeping, and oh, there's another pick-up truck, there are a lot of pick-up trucks out tonight, aren't there?
Then we did a little cool-down walk, peeked at Benjie's parakeets, took a picture to celebrate, and ate ice cream.
