Poor Chad has had a rough week.
Tuesday evening I picked him up from daycare and they told me that he had had three diapers that were, shall we say, "squirty". Three squirty diapers earns babies a 24-hour banishment. He was still on the changing table when I got there. If I had run one red light they wouldn't have seen the third one, and he would have been allowed to come in the next day. He certainly wasn't acting sick. He was laughing hysterically while they told me he was too sick to come in. The little faker.
So Wednesday he and Andy stayed home together, and there were no more squirts.
Meanwhile, he'd had some symptoms of another disease, which for Chad's dignity we will refer to hereafter as "Disease X." Sometimes it looked a lot like Disease X, but he didn't have all of the major symptoms. And the symptoms came and went so we continued with the "watchful waiting" approach. Thursday evening things started to look worse, so I called the nurse on-call. She agreed that it didn't sound like it was Disease X, but he should come in the next day to get things looked at.
So on Friday he went to the pediatrician. The first doctor thought it could be Disease X, but wanted a second opinion. A second doctor came in, and said it was most likely Disease X and to start treating it as such.
So now he's getting medication 3-4 times a day.
While he was at the doctor they also checked the rest of him out, and even measured his blood oxygen level (which was fine, so we're not really sure why they did that.) They also looked in his throat and said it looked red and we should keep an eye on that.
Tonight he was a uncharacteristically fussy, and he has a slight fever.
So to summarize, in addition to teething and allergies, he's had the squirts, Disease X, a sore throat, a fever, and two temperature takings (yes, through the alternative route). It's been a bad week to be Chad.
On the bright side, he's moved on to oatmeal cereal, which is yummier than rice cereal (at least according to Andy.) And the Red Sox are starting to get their butts in gear, so that's good news. Also, he got to go to a really good restaurant with us last night. He couldn't eat anything, but he got to enjoy the atmosphere, and the waiter thought he was really cute.
I feel like all posts should include some pictures, so here's what he has been up to lately!
Burp cloths are still his favorite toy:
He's too young to actually jog with us in the jogging stroller, but he got to go for a ride in it at the Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon.
He's become amazingly good at splashing us in the bath. Judging from his kicking pattern, I predict he's going to compete in the butterfly stroke.
He'll roll onto his belly every time we lie him on his back...
But then sometimes he's just to tired to roll onto his back again, and falls asleep with his face in the mat.
(I promise we only left him like that long enough to take a picture, before we moved him to a more comfortable position.)
