When they decorated the classroom for spring they hung a huge butterfly mobile over the play area. It had gauzy butterflies that were each about a foot long hung from the ceiling with fishing line. All the babies would stare at it when they were lounging on the Boppys and play mats below it. Chad was also captivated by it, and he definitely eyed it when we walked past it over the past month.
According to the Ouch Report, at 8:10 this morning, Chad finally made his move. A teacher carried him past the mobile and he shot his little hand out and grabbed the fishing line. (Knowing Chad, he probably intended to chew on the butterfly.) The fishing line gave him a little cut on one finger. The report states that the first aid administered included washing the cut, rest/observation and TLC. It was signed by the teacher who attended to the injury, a second teacher who witnessed it, and the director. It sounds like he caused quite the commotion.
We've seen no ill-effects from the little cut. I think the worst part of the episode is that he ruined the mobile for all the other babies, because it was disassembled when I got there today.
Chad was also the star of the daycare on Monday. It's been 90+ degrees here all week, so we dressed him in his Hawaiian flamingo outfit (shirt AND shorts this time). We learned later that all the other teachers heard about the little keiki's outfit and were coming into his room to check him out. They told Andy to tell me that I did a good job picking out his clothes. (That outfit was a gift, so I can't take full credit for it, but it's still nice to know that he is the fashion icon of the Infant A classroom.)
